Cat & Dog Wellness Exams

Wellness exams are key to helping your pet to maintain good long-term physical health and wellness.

When combined with routine vaccinations, parasite prevention and proper nutrition, these routine examinations include regular physical checkups to give your pet the best chance at excellent lifelong health.

When bringing your cat or dog in for their routine checkup, we are able to prevent health issues from ever developing in your pet in the first place. We also have an opportunity to catch them early and address health issues while they are at their most treatable.

Cat & Dog Wellness Exams in Poway

What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical

Our veterinarian will give your dog or cat a comprehensive physical checkup in order to gain a complete picture of their overall health at our animal hospital in Poway. Routinely scheduled pet wellness exams at our clinic generally include all of the following elements:

General Condition

Your pet's general condition and demeanor can give our vets helpful hints to their overall health and well-being. The way your companion stands and walks, their level of alertness and their weight when compared to their breed, age and size can all be important indicators of their general health.

Coat & Skin

During your pet's checkup, we will examine your dog or cat's skin and coat for signs of problems, including excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, dandruff, or abnormal hair loss or shedding.

Face & Head

Your pet's eyes, ears, and nose will be examined for abnormalities or discharge. We will also check the mouth for symptoms of oral health problems such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease.

Internal Health

Your pet's heart rate, pulse, rhythm, and blood pressure are all incredibly important to your pet's heart health. We will test each of these to ensure they are at normal levels. We will also examine their lungs for signs of abnormal breathing.

Lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling, and we will also examine the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver, and stomach all feel normal.

Review of Findings

At the end of your pet's routine wellness exam, our vets will take some time to speak with you about any concerns they may have about your pet's overall health and well-being.

Checkups for Puppies & Kittens

Kittens and puppies both need proper medical attention in the first few weeks of their lives to start off on a healthy foot.

We will provide your new best friend with a complete physical exam, appropriate immunizations and deworming medications. We will also test them for intestinal parasites.

We are also proud to be able to offer Puppy and Kitten Packages to start your young pet's lifelong healthcare with the right treatments while saving you 20% on our preventive services.

Puppy & Kitten Packages

Please never hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about caring for your new pet, both at your appointments or following your visits.

Once your puppy or kitten's checkup is complete, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots

Seniors

With recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, as well as newer therapies and better nutrition, senior pets are living longer than ever.

While this is great news for pets and owners, it also means that your companion needs special attention as they grow older. As your dog or cat grows beyond middle age, routine care becomes ever more important.

On top of routine wellness exams provided to all adult pets, we will give special attention to your pet to try and detect age-related conditions. If needed, we will also recommend additional diagnostic testing to keep on top of your companion's care.

Nutritional Consultations

During your pet's veterinary checkup at our Poway animal hospital, our vets will ask about the current diet you are feeding your companion. We will be able to offer advice for ways you can change or supplement your dog or cat's daily nutrition to ensure they are getting all the nutrients they need based on their age, breed, and any outstanding health conditions.

Our veterinarians have access to a number of specialty and prescription diets to help manage your pet's weight, give them the nutrients they need, and manage health issues from plaque buildup to kidney disease.
